What we were asked to do
Centura Foods instructed Code Computerlove to develop a new website for its flagship brand, Sharwood's - which makes a whole range of spicy and flavoursome products for oriental meals. The site's redevelopment was to play a key role in the £9m brand re-launch, which also included new logo, new packaging designs and product launches. Research indicated enormous growth potential in the Asian, Chinese and Indian meal categories, so the website was to capitalise on this potential by educating and inspiring consumers.
What we did
We naturally warmed to our task, creating a website (www.sharwoods.co.uk) that's also tasty, colourful and spicy. The home page is regularly updated to reflect the current season and matching eating occasions, and right now it's Summer Eating; previously it was Chinese New Year and later in the year, there'll be Autumn Eating and National Curry Week - all of which provide an ideal opportunity to introduce seasonal products. There's also a Recipe Search, based on what you've got in the fridge, and a Chef's Help section.
What happened
The website was an instant success, and the numbers prove it; monthly visits quickly rose 65% with length of visits rising to an average of 12 minutes a session. Unique monthly visitors soon increased 50%, with visits referred from search engines up 700% each month. Recipe searches account for nearly 40% of site traffic and a constantly growing email database - with whom Sharwood's can communicate on an ongoing basis.
