The North West’s Best go head to head to design website

Saturday, 01 September 2007

On 28th September teams of web designers from around the North West will be going head to head to see who can design the most visually stunning website in just 15 hours.

But the real winners will be the Sheung Lok (Forever Happy) Internet Cafe in South Manchester, who will be the beneficiaries of the winning website.

The 'CSS Hack Night’ event is being held at Manchester digital agency Code Computerlove on Jutland Street, between 7pm on Friday 28th September and 12noon on Saturday 29th.

Event organiser, Andrew Disley, a user experience developer at Code explained more.  "The event is aimed at web designers and developers who can use CSS – Cascading Style Sheets. CSS allow web site authors to take complete control of the look and feel of a web site by defining the layout and style of the website elements without modifying the source HTML.

"The winning website will be judged by a representative from the Sheung Lok Internet Café and John Keys from the Manchester Digital Development Agency (MDDA) who helped to choose the community project to receive the new website. There will also be a People’s Choice Vote by the participants at the event.

"And just to add even more pressure, the event will be held overnight – which hasn't been done before."

He added: "I decided to run the event as I really enjoy meeting and working with other website designers. The North West boasts some of the UK’s best digital talent and I think it's important to showcase these skills in a fun, creative way.

"In addition to sharing new ideas and techniques, the initiative gives something back to the local area, as our chosen community project will receive a fantastic new website. "

You don’t need to be a designer or developer to take part; anyone comfortable with using CSS to change the look and feel of a website, can join in. Sometimes it’s the most well thought through design that’s the best, not the prettiest. To register for the event visit http://csshacknight.com/
