Code appointed by Waterstone's

Wednesday, 10 May 2006

Waterstone’s, the UK’s foremost bookseller brand has appointed Code as its first digital agency. Code will work with the retailer’s in house team to develop an online bookselling service to be launched in Autumn 2006.

The Manchester based agency will also be developing and implementing the online marketing strategy for the company.

The new website will further enhance the established Waterstone’s high street brand and will offer more than three million books. It will also give booklovers access to exclusive content such as streaming of book signing events, author insights, ‘try before you buy’ and personal shopping for gifts serviced by Waterstone’s knowledgeable booksellers.

Code will be responsible for developing the design and functionality of the site with a key objective of ensuring that the unique personality of the Waterstone’s brand and its in store experience and expertise is transferred online. The agency will work closely with Waterstone’s in-house team, led by Head of E-commerce Gary Warren, to ensure a seamless integration with the groups IT systems.

Code was invited to pitch for the Waterstone’s account following their recent appointment by HMV. Tony Foggett, Managing Director at Code said, “Waterstone’s is in the fantastic position of being a well respected brand synonymous with being the leading authority on book selling. Our challenge will be to ensure their real passion for books is translated into site. We will be making sure we are helping Waterstone’s deliver a first class e-commerce site for book purchases, as well as delivering an online bookstore where the brands expertise and content means it will be the premier destination for book lovers everywhere.”

Award-winning Code, formed in 1999, is a full service digital marketing agency that employs 35 people. The agency's client list includes Kimberly Clark Corporation, HMV, RHM, Capital One, NUS Services, BUPA, and Akzo Nobel .
